Charge prefix guide

What is a Uber charge?

Rides, food delivery and the Uber One subscription, each with its own descriptor flavour. Uber's charge behaviour generates false alarms by design: temporary authorisation holds before a trip, adjusted totals after (surge, tips, route changes), and separate charges per Eats order that can post at odd hours.

Important: a processor prefix identifies who processed the payment — not necessarily who you bought from.

Real examples of how it appears

  • UBER *TRIP HELP.UBER.COM
  • UBER *EATS PENDING
  • UBER* ONE
  • UBER* PENDING
  • UBER *ONE

Formats vary by bank — reference fragments, cities and codes come and go, but the prefix shape stays recognisable.

Descriptor formats to look for

  • UBER*TRIP / EATSb

How to verify the charge

See your Uber trips
  1. Open the Uber (or Uber Eats) app's trip/order history — every charge maps to a trip or order with a receipt.
  2. An UBER charge slightly different from the app receipt is usually a tip added after, or a pending hold being replaced by the final amount.
  3. UBER* ONE recurring monthly is the membership — cancellable in the app under the Uber One section.
  4. Family profiles bill the organiser: a household member's ride shows on your card.
  5. Review your full trip and order history on the web at https://riders.uber.com/trips — each entry has a receipt with the final amount, including tips and fare adjustments that can make the posted charge differ from what you expected.
  6. For a charge with no matching trip or order, use Uber's official unrecognized-charge flow at https://help.uber.com/en/riders/article/my-account-has-an-unrecognized-charge — it walks through the common causes and ends in a form where you submit the charge details for Uber to review.

Is it fraud?

An Uber charge with no matching trip in any household account suggests your card is loaded into someone else's Uber account — a common card-fraud pattern because stolen cards get 'tested' on rides. Report in-app (Uber has a dedicated unrecognised-charge flow at help.uber.com) and replace the card.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I see two charges for one Uber trip?

One is the pre-trip authorisation hold, the other the final amount. The hold drops off within a few days — only the final charge settles.

What is UBER* ONE?

Uber's monthly membership (discounted rides/delivery). It renews automatically; cancel in the app if it's not intentional.

What is Uber One on my statement?

Uber One is Uber's paid membership covering rides and Uber Eats perks, and it auto-renews at the monthly or annual rate you picked when you signed up — often after a free trial ends. To stop it, go to Account > Uber One > Manage Membership in the app; Uber's help pages advise cancelling at least 48 hours before your billing date to avoid the next charge, and note that a charge taken within 24 hours of renewal may be automatically refunded after you cancel.

Why does Uber show a pending charge that doesn't match any trip?

Uber's help documentation says a pending line is often a temporary authorization hold placed when you request a ride, and it drops off your account within a few business days — some banks take longer. It can also be an upfront fare for a trip that was later adjusted. If a charge actually posts and settles with no matching trip in your history, report it through Uber's unrecognized-charge form.

Why was I charged more than the fare I was quoted?

Per Uber's help pages, the usual reasons are an updated fare (a changed route, added stop, or extra wait time), a cancellation fee, or a tip you added after the trip that posts as part of the final amount. Open the trip receipt at riders.uber.com to see the line-by-line breakdown. If none of those apply — or the trip isn't yours — check whether a family member used your account or payment method, then dispute it with Uber.

Common misunderstandings

  • The city or state shown is often the company's registered address, not where you made the purchase.
  • Charges can post days or weeks after the purchase.
  • Small businesses may bill under a legal or holding-company name.
