In plain English

The short version — key numbers highlighted.

Money came in from three places — Acme Ltd salary (2,450.00), a Stripe payout (380.00) and a 250.00 rent split from J Smith — totalling 3,080.00 against 266.21 spent.

  • Two subscriptions are active — Netflix (12.99/mo since Nov 2025) and Spotify (11.99/mo since Jan 2026) — together ≈ 299.76 a year.
  • The balance never dropped below 2,304.11 and every figure reconciles against the statement's own opening and closing balances.

Don't recognise a charge? Do this, in order
  1. Search your email and payment apps for the exact amount (e.g. "11.99") — receipts and PayPal/Apple Pay history often use a different brand name than the statement.
  2. Ask others on the account. Family purchases and app-store buys are the most common "mystery" charges.
  3. Consider the innocent explanations: charges can post days — sometimes weeks — after the purchase (airlines, bars, hotels are notorious); small businesses often bill under their legal or holding-company name ("XYZ Holdings LLC" can be your local donut shop); companies that were acquired or renamed bill under the new owner's name; event tickets can bill under the venue, not the event; store-card purchases can show the card issuer's name instead of the store; vending machines and kiosks bill through payment companies; free trials convert to paid; annual renewals arrive a year after you signed up; promo credits or partial refunds can make an amount look unfamiliar; and a city or state you don't recognise is usually the company's registered address, not where the purchase happened.
  4. Contact the merchant first — the website and details above are there for exactly this. Merchants can refund or cancel faster than a bank dispute can.
  5. Still stuck? Ask your bank to look into it — but know the limits. Day-to-day, banks often see the same text you do; the formal inquiry/dispute process is what surfaces the merchant's full legal name. Note that banks often auto-refund small amounts without investigating, so a successful dispute is not proof the charge was fraud.
  6. Dispute only genuinely unauthorised charges. A chargeback on a legitimate charge you forgot costs the merchant real fees, can get your account closed by the bank, and can get you banned by the merchant.
  7. Tiny unknown charges are a special case — a few cents or dollars from an unrecognised merchant can be card testing. If so, ask your bank to replace the card, don't just dispute the charge.
