Getting your statement out of Bank of America
Bank of America splits things sharply: PDF statements live under Statements & Documents in online banking, while a separate transaction download offers spreadsheet and personal-finance formats. Online statement viewing covers a shorter window than what the bank keeps on file, so older statements are fetched by request.
Download PDF statements
- Sign in to Online Banking at bankofamerica.com.
- Go to the Accounts tab and choose Statements & Documents.
- Pick the account and statement period you want.
- Open the statement as a PDF and save it — Adobe Reader or any PDF viewer will open it.
Export transactions for spreadsheets or accounting software
- Sign in and open the account's transaction activity.
- Look for the download link in the activity area.
- Pick a date range and a file type — Bank of America's download is widely documented as offering Microsoft Excel-compatible CSV, Quicken (QFX), QuickBooks (QBO), and Money (OFX) options.
- Download and open the file in your tool of choice.
This exports recent activity only — it is not a way to get old statements as spreadsheets; those stay PDF.
Request older statements
- Sign in to Online Banking and go to Statements & Documents.
- Use the statement request option for periods older than the online viewing window.
- Choose electronic delivery — Bank of America says requested electronic statements appear within 24 to 36 hours and stay accessible for 7 days.
- Alternatively request paper copies, which the bank says are mailed 7 to 10 business days after the request.
Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against Bank of America's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.
What Bank of America gives you natively
Statements themselves are PDF only. The separate transaction download is consistently documented (by Quicken-community and converter sources) as offering CSV for Excel, QFX for Quicken, QBO for QuickBooks, and OFX for Money. None of these formats apply to archived statements — once a month has rolled out of the activity window, PDF is the only native way to get it.
How far back you can go
Bank of America's digital banking FAQ says you can view, print and download up to 18 months of statements at any time in Online Banking, and that the bank keeps copies of statements for up to 7 years. Statements older than the 18-month online window are retrieved by request: electronic copies arrive in 24 to 36 hours and remain available for 7 days, and mailed paper copies take 7 to 10 business days. Check images are likewise viewable for up to 18 months, with older check copies requiring the check number, date, and amount.
Bank of America statement quirks worth knowing
- Debit card purchases are prefixed CHECKCARD followed by a MM/DD date, the merchant name, and city/state — the embedded date is the transaction date, not the posting date.
- ACH transactions use DES: and ID: fields (for example a payroll line like COMPANY DES:PAYROLL ID:XXXXX), packing originator metadata into the description.
- Deposit-account statements are laid out in separate sections for deposits and additions versus withdrawals and other subtractions, rather than one chronological list.
- Merchant lines often carry store numbers and truncated city names jammed against the merchant name, which converter guides flag as a common parsing headache.
Don't just convert it — understand it
The same upload also produces a full analysis of your Bank of Americastatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.

Frequently asked questions
How far back can I get Bank of America statements?
You can view and download up to 18 months of statements directly in Online Banking, and Bank of America keeps copies for up to 7 years. For anything between 18 months and 7 years old, submit a statement request — electronic copies show up within 24 to 36 hours.
Can I export Bank of America transactions to Excel or CSV?
Yes, for recent activity: the transaction download offers a CSV that opens in Excel, plus Quicken, QuickBooks, and Money formats. Archived monthly statements, however, are PDF only — you'd need to convert those separately.
Does Bank of America charge for old statement copies?
The bank's FAQ doesn't list a fee for statement requests made through Online Banking, and states there is no fee for using Mobile and Online Banking itself. Confirm current terms when you submit the request, since fee schedules vary by account.
What does CHECKCARD mean on my Bank of America statement?
It marks a purchase made with your debit card. The MM/DD that follows is the date the transaction occurred, and the rest of the line is the merchant descriptor, often with a city and state.
How do I convert a Bank of America statement to CSV or Excel?
Download a statement from your Bank of America app or online banking (PDF or CSV both work), upload it above, and download the result as CSV, Excel, QIF, OFX or JSON. Every transaction is parsed, and merchants are identified automatically.
Does it work with Bank of America PDF statements?
Yes. Structured exports are parsed exactly; PDF layouts go through AI structure analysis, and scanned PDFs are read page-by-page with AI vision — every date and amount is re-validated by code afterwards.
Is my statement safe?
Card and account numbers are redacted before anything is stored, the original file is deleted within 24 hours on every plan, analysed reports stay in your dashboard only for your plan's retention period (24 hours on Free), and we never ask for your bank login.
Is it free?
Converting a statement is free with an account (1 page per 24 hours). Paid plans add more pages, bulk uploads and AI web research on stubborn merchants.
