Getting your statement out of BMO

BMO provides statements as PDF eStatements inside BMO Online Banking and the BMO app, and its Online Banking for Business platform documents up to 7 years of statement archiving. Recent transactions can be downloaded from the account activity view in finance-software formats.

View and download eStatements in BMO Online Banking

  1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking.
  2. Open the account from your accounts overview.
  3. Go to the statements area for that account (labelled around eStatements or statements, depending on the account type).
  4. Select the statement period and open the PDF, then save it to your device.

Accounts need to be set up for eStatements before an online archive builds up.

Download recent transactions for Quicken or spreadsheets

  1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking and select the account.
  2. Click Download above the transactions table.
  3. Select a date range.
  4. Choose the download format, then click Download and save the file.

Business accounts: Account Statements in Online Banking for Business

  1. Sign in to BMO Online Banking for Business.
  2. Under the Account Information tab, open the eStatements menu and select Account Statements.
  3. Choose the From and To dates and the accounts you want, then click Search.
  4. Click the link in the Statement Date column to open the PDF.

Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against BMO's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.

What BMO gives you natively

Statements are PDF only — BMO's business eStatements documentation states statements are provided in PDF format. For transaction downloads from the personal online banking activity view, guides for BMO customers document OFX and Quicken-flavoured QFX files as the download options, which import cleanly into Quicken, Xero and similar tools; BMO does not offer a native CSV export of a full monthly statement, so spreadsheet users generally convert the PDF.

How far back you can go

BMO's Online Banking for Business documentation states account statements remain available for viewing for seven years in PDF format. Retention on personal accounts depends on the account and enrolment date — the archive builds from when eStatements start, and BMO's US credit card documentation cites a shorter 24-month window for that product — so check what your own statements list shows. For anything beyond the online archive, you request copies through BMO, and reprints of historical statements can attract the document fees in BMO's fee schedule.

BMO statement quirks worth knowing

  • Interac e-Transfer debits and credits appear as dedicated statement lines identified by the other party's name — per Interac's design, no account numbers are exchanged or displayed.
  • Card purchases show the merchant's registered name with a location suffix, and pre-authorized payments often appear under a biller's corporate name rather than the consumer brand.
  • The OFX/QFX download describes transactions in a compressed form that differs from the wording on the PDF statement, which matters when reconciling imports against the official record.
  • BMO statement lines use type codes and abbreviations for channel and transaction type, so recurring payments can be labelled differently across months if the processing channel changes.

Don't just convert it — understand it

The same upload also produces a full analysis of your BMOstatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download a BMO statement as a PDF?

Sign in to BMO Online Banking, open the account, and go to its statements area to pick a period and save the PDF. Business users go to Account Information, then eStatements, then Account Statements in Online Banking for Business.

Can I export BMO transactions to Excel?

BMO's transaction download (the Download control above the transactions table) produces finance-software files such as OFX/QFX rather than a native spreadsheet of the full statement. To get statement data into Excel or CSV, most people convert the PDF eStatement.

How many years of statements does BMO keep online?

BMO's business banking documentation states statements stay available for seven years as PDFs. Personal account archives build from when you enrol in eStatements, so older paper-era statements have to be requested from BMO.

How do I get a BMO statement that is no longer online?

Contact BMO by phone or in branch to request archived statement copies. This is a manual retrieval and BMO's standard fee schedule for document reproduction can apply.

How do I convert a BMO statement to CSV or Excel?

Download a statement from your BMO app or online banking (PDF or CSV both work), upload it above, and download the result as CSV, Excel, QIF, OFX or JSON. Every transaction is parsed, and merchants are identified automatically.

Does it work with BMO PDF statements?

Yes. Structured exports are parsed exactly; PDF layouts go through AI structure analysis, and scanned PDFs are read page-by-page with AI vision — every date and amount is re-validated by code afterwards.

Is my statement safe?

Card and account numbers are redacted before anything is stored, the original file is deleted within 24 hours on every plan, analysed reports stay in your dashboard only for your plan's retention period (24 hours on Free), and we never ask for your bank login.

Is it free?

Converting a statement is free with an account (1 page per 24 hours). Paid plans add more pages, bulk uploads and AI web research on stubborn merchants.
