Getting your statement out of Halifax

Halifax (part of Lloyds Banking Group) serves PDF statements from a three-dot menu on each account, holds 7 years online and at least 10 years in the app, and is one of the few banks still offering a midata export for machine-readable account data.

Download a PDF statement in Halifax online banking

  1. Sign in and select the account you want.
  2. Select the three-dot menu.
  3. Select 'Download or print statement'.
  4. Choose the period and save or print the PDF.

Download a statement in the Halifax app

  1. Open the app and select the account.
  2. Open statements and pick the month and year.
  3. Download the PDF to your device.

Credit card customers need to ask for a PDF statement rather than downloading it directly — statements for cards are provided as PDF files on request.

Export a midata file

  1. From your account homepage, select 'More actions' on the account you want.
  2. Choose 'Account services'.
  3. Select the 'midata export' button and download the file.

midata is a standardised machine-readable snapshot of account activity, originally designed for switching-comparison services.

Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against Halifax's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.

What Halifax gives you natively

Statements are PDFs in both online banking and the app. Halifax's distinctive extra is the midata export — a standardised data file downloaded from 'Account services' — which gives structured transaction data without screen-scraping. There is no advertised OFX or QIF export; for spreadsheet work beyond midata's scope, people convert the PDF statements. A transaction search (magnifying glass icon) filters by name, amount, month and direction, but searching is not exporting.

How far back you can go

Halifax's help pages state online banking holds statements up to 7 years old, while the app goes back at least 10 years. For statements older than that, or paper copies, you need to contact Halifax by chat, phone or in branch.

Halifax statement quirks worth knowing

  • Halifax publishes an official payment-codes page and uses the Lloyds-group code set: DEB, DD, SO, FPI, FPO, BGC, TFR, CHG, CPT — statements are structurally interchangeable with Lloyds and Bank of Scotland.
  • The app's statement archive (at least 10 years) outlasts the website's (7 years), so the phone is the better tool for old statements.
  • The midata export is a separate machine-readable file from 'Account services' — easy to miss because it lives nowhere near the statements screen.
  • Credit card statements are handled differently from current accounts: they are PDFs you request, not files sitting in the statement list.

Don't just convert it — understand it

The same upload also produces a full analysis of your Halifaxstatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.

Frequently asked questions

How do I download a Halifax statement as a PDF?

Sign in, select the account, open the three-dot menu and choose 'Download or print statement'. The app follows the same pattern: pick the account, open statements, choose the month and download.

How far back can I get Halifax statements?

Up to 7 years in online banking and at least 10 years in the app, per Halifax's help centre.

Does Halifax have a CSV export?

Not a conventional statement CSV. Halifax offers a midata export ('More actions' > 'Account services' > 'midata export') for structured data; otherwise you convert the PDF statement.

What do the codes DEB, FPI and CPT mean on a Halifax statement?

DEB is a debit card payment, FPI is a Faster Payment received, and CPT is a cashpoint (ATM) withdrawal. Halifax lists all its payment codes on an official help page.

How do I convert a Halifax statement to CSV or Excel?

Download a statement from your Halifax app or online banking (PDF or CSV both work), upload it above, and download the result as CSV, Excel, QIF, OFX or JSON. Every transaction is parsed, and merchants are identified automatically.

Does it work with Halifax PDF statements?

Yes. Structured exports are parsed exactly; PDF layouts go through AI structure analysis, and scanned PDFs are read page-by-page with AI vision — every date and amount is re-validated by code afterwards.

Is my statement safe?

Card and account numbers are redacted before anything is stored, the original file is deleted within 24 hours on every plan, analysed reports stay in your dashboard only for your plan's retention period (24 hours on Free), and we never ask for your bank login.

Is it free?

Converting a statement is free with an account (1 page per 24 hours). Paid plans add more pages, bulk uploads and AI web research on stubborn merchants.
