Getting your statement out of HSBC
HSBC UK issues official statements as PDFs in online banking and the mobile app, with spreadsheet downloads available only from the transactions list. Both channels hold up to 6 years of statements.
Download a PDF statement in HSBC online banking
- Log on to HSBC online banking.
- Use the quick links menu and select 'Statements'.
- Choose the statement type, then select the year and month.
- Download the statement as a PDF.
View a statement in the HSBC UK mobile app
- Log in to the HSBC UK Mobile Banking app.
- Select the account you want a statement for.
- Tap 'View statements'.
- Select the month, then save or share the PDF.
Download transactions as Excel or CSV
- Log on to online banking and select the account.
- Select 'Search and filter' and set the date range you need.
- Click 'Download' at the bottom of the transaction list.
- Choose the file format and select 'Continue'.
This exports the live transaction list, not the formal statement, so it will not line up exactly with statement periods.
Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against HSBC's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.
What HSBC gives you natively
Official statements come as PDF only. Excel (xls) and CSV are available, but only from the transactions list via 'Search and filter' and 'Download' — not as alternative statement formats. HSBC's help pages do not mention OFX or QIF. Because the CSV covers recent transaction activity rather than issued statement periods, anyone needing a full month in spreadsheet form generally has to convert the PDF statement.
How far back you can go
HSBC states you can access statements going back up to 6 years in both online banking and the mobile app. For statements older than 6 years or paper copies, HSBC directs you to the Chat service in mobile or online banking, telephone banking, or your nearest branch.
HSBC statement quirks worth knowing
- HSBC's official statement-abbreviations page documents short type codes on lines: DD (Direct Debit), SO (standing order), TRF (transfer), CHQ (cheque), CR (credit), DR (debit), ATM (cash machine), BACS (automated credit such as wages).
- Contactless debit card payments are marked with a ')))' symbol on HSBC statements, which trips up naive text parsers.
- The CSV/Excel download and the PDF statement come from different systems — the CSV reflects the rolling transaction list, so totals for a calendar month can differ from the issued statement.
- Card payments can appear first as pending with a temporary descriptor before posting, so very recent exports may not match final statement wording.
Don't just convert it — understand it
The same upload also produces a full analysis of your HSBCstatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.

Can I export HSBC transactions to Excel or CSV?
Yes, but only from the transactions list: select the account, use 'Search and filter' to set dates, then click 'Download' and choose Excel or CSV. Official statements themselves are PDF only.
How far back do HSBC online statements go?
Up to 6 years, in both online banking and the mobile app, according to HSBC's help pages.

How do I convert a HSBC statement to CSV or Excel?
Download a statement from your HSBC app or online banking (PDF or CSV both work), upload it above, and download the result as CSV, Excel, QIF, OFX or JSON. Every transaction is parsed, and merchants are identified automatically.
Does it work with HSBC PDF statements?
Yes. Structured exports are parsed exactly; PDF layouts go through AI structure analysis, and scanned PDFs are read page-by-page with AI vision — every date and amount is re-validated by code afterwards.
Is my statement safe?
Card and account numbers are redacted before anything is stored, the original file is deleted within 24 hours on every plan, analysed reports stay in your dashboard only for your plan's retention period (24 hours on Free), and we never ask for your bank login.
Is it free?
Converting a statement is free with an account (1 page per 24 hours). Paid plans add more pages, bulk uploads and AI web research on stubborn merchants.
