Getting your statement out of Nationwide Building Society

Nationwide holds a shorter online archive than the big banks — 36 months of PDF statements via the 'Documents' tab (or 'My Documents' in the app) and around 15 months of viewable transactions. Older records mean a paper-copy request or, for closed accounts, a special historical-statements service.

Download a PDF statement in the Nationwide Internet Bank

  1. Log in to the Internet Bank.
  2. Select the 'Documents' tab, then 'Statements'.
  3. Under 'View by account', choose the account.
  4. Pick the statement and download the PDF.

Download a statement in the Nationwide app

  1. Log in to the app and select the account.
  2. Go to 'My Documents'.
  3. Choose the statement and download it.

Nationwide states you can view and download current account, savings and credit card statements from the last 36 months in the app.

Download transactions as a file

  1. In the Internet Bank, open the account's transaction view and set your date range.
  2. Open the 'Download Transactions' dropdown.
  3. Choose the file option (CSV for spreadsheets) and download.

Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against Nationwide Building Society's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.

What Nationwide Building Society gives you natively

Statements are PDFs. A 'Download transactions' option in the Internet Bank produces CSV files for spreadsheet use, and for credit cards Nationwide's help mentions choosing 'the format you require' when downloading transactions. There is no advertised OFX or QIF support. The app handles PDF statement downloads but transaction-file exports are an Internet Bank (browser) feature.

How far back you can go

Nationwide's shortest-in-class window: 36 months of PDF statements for current accounts and savings, with credit cards showing 15 months of summaries, and roughly 15 months of transactions viewable online. For older records you request copies by phone or in branch (a charge may apply). Closed accounts get special treatment: if you closed on or after 2 February 2018 you can register for online access to historical statements going back 5 years — but you must register within 6 months of closure.

Nationwide Building Society statement quirks worth knowing

  • Only 36 months of statements online — half or less of what Barclays, NatWest, Lloyds and HSBC keep — so mortgage or visa applications needing older proofs hit the wall sooner.
  • Nationwide statement lines favour written-out descriptions ('Direct debit', 'Visa purchase') over the compact code columns (DEB, D/D) used by the big clearing banks.
  • The closed-account historical-statements service has a hard 6-month registration deadline after closure — miss it and you are into manual copy requests.
  • Statements sit under a 'Documents' tab rather than on the account screen, and transaction exports live in a completely different place ('Download Transactions' in the transaction view).

Don't just convert it — understand it

The same upload also produces a full analysis of your Nationwide Building Societystatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.
