Getting your statement out of NatWest
NatWest keeps up to 7 years of PDF statements behind the 'Statements & transactions' menu in Online Banking, and publishes an official list of the type codes it prints on statement lines. The app shows recent statements, but the full archive lives in the browser version.

Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against NatWest's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.
What NatWest gives you natively
Issued statements are PDF. The separate transaction download supports spreadsheet and accounting formats — accounting guides consistently report CSV, Excel, OFX and QIF options. Date-range searches are limited to short windows (guides report around three months per search), so long exports are done in chunks. The PDF archive and the transaction download are independent: the PDF is the official document, the export is raw data.
How far back you can go
NatWest states you can download recent or historic statements going back up to 7 years in Online Banking. If you need a copy statement beyond what is online, NatWest has a dedicated 'Request a copy of your bank statement' support process. Transaction downloads cover a much shorter searchable window than the 7-year PDF archive.
NatWest statement quirks worth knowing
- NatWest prints a type code on each statement line and publishes the official key: D/D (Direct Debit), S/O (Standing Order), POS (debit card point of sale), BAC (automated credit), BGC (bank giro credit), TFR (transfer), CHP (CHAPS), C/L (Cashline ATM), OTR (online banking transaction), DPC (direct banking by PC), INT (interest).
- Some codes have changed over time — for example NatWest notes charges previously displayed as 'CHG' — so older statements use different labels than current ones.
- The slash style (D/D, S/O, C/R) differs from the unslashed codes (DD, SO) used by Lloyds-group and HSBC statements, which matters for descriptor matching.
- Transaction search for exports runs in limited date windows, so a 12-month CSV means several passes stitched together.
