Getting your statement out of Starling Bank

Starling generates statements for any custom date range — not just calendar months — in PDF, large print PDF, or CSV, from both the app and Online Bank. You can also choose between standard and certified PDF statements.

Download from the app

  1. Tap the account menu icon in the top right of the app.
  2. Tap Statements, then Statement history.
  3. Select the time period you need — any two dates, not just whole months.
  4. Choose the format: CSV, PDF, or large print PDF.
  5. For PDF, choose between a Standard or Certified statement, then download.

Download from Online Bank (web)

  1. Log in to Starling's Online Bank in your browser.
  2. Open the account and go to Statements.
  3. Pick your date range and format, then download.

Menu wording shifts between app versions; the destinations above stay stable — confirm against Starling Bank's official help. Statements up to 5 MB / 5,000 rows are supported; card numbers are redacted before storage, the original file is deleted within 24 hours, and reports stay in your dashboard only as long as your plan keeps them.

What Starling Bank gives you natively

Starling offers PDF (standard or certified), large print PDF, and CSV. The certified PDF is suitable for formal verification like visa applications, and the CSV works directly with Xero, FreeAgent, and spreadsheet software. The any-date-range option makes it easy to export exactly a UK tax year (6 April to 5 April) in one file.

How far back you can go

Starling keeps your complete transaction history from the day you opened the account — you can scroll back to account opening in the app and generate statements across that entire span. There's no published cutoff or archival fee for older periods.

Starling Bank statement quirks worth knowing

  • Statements can start and end on any dates you choose, so two Starling statements from the same customer may cover overlapping periods — worth checking when deduplicating imports.
  • Spaces (Starling's savings sub-accounts) sit alongside the main account, and movements to and from Spaces appear as internal transfer lines in your history.
  • Starling's CSV includes counterparty, reference, and transaction-type columns in a clean structure, which is why most accounting tools ingest it without a custom mapping.
  • Certified and standard PDFs contain the same transactions — the certification only changes the document's formality, not its data — so pick standard for conversion work.

Don't just convert it — understand it

The same upload also produces a full analysis of your Starling Bankstatement: every merchant identified with confidence levels, subscriptions with renewal estimates and yearly cost, duplicate and price-rise flags, bank & FX fees, and a printable report. That's the part a plain converter can't do.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a Starling statement for a custom date range?

Yes — Statement history lets you pick any two dates rather than whole calendar months, which is ideal for tax-year exports or covering an exact tenancy or visa window.

What's the difference between Starling's standard and certified statements?

Both contain the same transactions. The certified version carries formal certification for official uses like visa or mortgage evidence; the standard PDF is fine for everything else.

How far back do Starling statements go?

All the way to account opening — Starling holds your full transaction history with no published cutoff.

Does Starling export CSV for Xero or FreeAgent?

Yes. Choose CSV in the statement flow; Starling's CSV is designed to work with accounting software like Xero and FreeAgent as well as any spreadsheet app.

How do I convert a Starling Bank statement to CSV or Excel?

Download a statement from your Starling Bank app or online banking (PDF or CSV both work), upload it above, and download the result as CSV, Excel, QIF, OFX or JSON. Every transaction is parsed, and merchants are identified automatically.

Does it work with Starling Bank PDF statements?

Yes. Structured exports are parsed exactly; PDF layouts go through AI structure analysis, and scanned PDFs are read page-by-page with AI vision — every date and amount is re-validated by code afterwards.

Is my statement safe?

Card and account numbers are redacted before anything is stored, the original file is deleted within 24 hours on every plan, analysed reports stay in your dashboard only for your plan's retention period (24 hours on Free), and we never ask for your bank login.

Is it free?

Converting a statement is free with an account (1 page per 24 hours). Paid plans add more pages, bulk uploads and AI web research on stubborn merchants.
