How to cancel your Amazon Prime subscription
Amazon Prime is a paid membership that bundles free shipping, Prime Video, and other benefits, billed monthly or annually. You cancel it from the Prime Membership page on Amazon's site or app using the End Membership flow. Following a 2025 FTC settlement over its notoriously long cancellation process, Amazon simplified the flow, though it still surfaces retention offers before the final confirmation.
On your statement it usually appears as AMZN.COM/BILL, Amazon Prime*, AMZN Mktp US, AMAZON.COM*, Amazon Digital Svcs. Not sure the charge is really Amazon Prime? Identify it first.
Cancel on the Amazon website
- Sign in at amazon.com and hover over Accounts & Lists in the top-right corner.
- Select Prime Membership (or go directly to amazon.com/mc, the Manage Your Prime Membership page).
- Open the Manage Membership menu and click End Membership.
- Amazon walks you through screens that recap your Prime benefits and may offer alternatives such as switching plans or pausing; keep choosing the option to continue cancelling.
- On the final screen, confirm the cancellation. Amazon shows whether your benefits end immediately (with a refund) or continue until the renewal date.
- Check for a confirmation email and note the end date shown on the membership page.
If you stop partway through the retention screens, the membership stays active. You must reach and confirm the final screen.
Cancel in the Amazon Shopping app
- Open the Amazon Shopping app and tap the profile icon at the bottom.
- Scroll down and tap Manage Prime Membership.
- Open the Manage Membership dropdown and tap End Membership.
- Follow the on-screen prompts through the retention offers and confirm on the final screen.
Cancel a standalone Prime Video subscription
- If you only pay for Prime Video (not full Prime), sign in at primevideo.com and open Account & Settings.
- Select the option to end your Prime Video subscription and confirm.
- Alternatively, cancel from Amazon's Memberships & Subscriptions page, which also lists Prime Video Channels (add-on channels billed separately) so you can cancel those individually.
Prime Video Channels (e.g. premium channel add-ons) are separate charges from Prime itself and each must be cancelled on its own.
Refunds, timing and what you'll still be charged
Under Amazon's current Prime terms, you can cancel at any time, and if neither you nor anyone on your account has placed an eligible Prime order or used Prime benefits during the current billing period, you are eligible for a full refund of that period's fee. There is also a window of a few business days after signing up (or converting from a free trial) in which Amazon refunds the full fee, though it may deduct the value of any benefits already used. When a refund applies, Amazon typically processes it within about three to five business days. If you have used benefits this period, cancellation normally takes effect at the end of the paid period with no partial refund. Both monthly and annual plans follow the same used-versus-unused benefits logic; annual members simply have a larger unused balance at stake, so timing the cancellation before the annual renewal matters more.
Watch out for these
- The End Membership flow shows several interstitial screens — benefit reminders, plan-switch offers, and a pause/remind-me-later option. Only the final confirmation actually cancels.
- Placing a single Prime-eligible order or streaming Prime Video during the billing period can void your full-refund eligibility for that period.
- Prime Video Channels and other subscriptions billed through Amazon are not cancelled when Prime ends — check Memberships & Subscriptions separately.
- Amazon's $2.5 billion FTC settlement over Prime signups and cancellations included automatic refunds for some members and a claims process with a July 27, 2026 deadline — separate from normal cancellation refunds.
Cancellation flows change — confirm against Amazon Prime's current account or help page (official help).
After you cancel: make sure it stuck
- Confirm the membership page shows an end date (or 'membership ended') instead of a renewal date.
- Watch your statement for AMZN.COM/BILL or Amazon Prime* charges at the next renewal date — a recurring charge means something is still active.
- Check Memberships & Subscriptions on Amazon for leftover Prime Video Channels, Kindle Unlimited, or Subscribe & Save items still billing.
- Generate a paper trail with the free cancellation-letter tool — useful if billing continues and you need proof.
- If it keeps charging after you cancel, follow the escalation playbook before disputing.
While you're at it — find the ones you forgot
Amazon Prime is rarely the only recurring charge. Upload a statement and find every subscription — trials that converted, quiet price rises, duplicates — each with its yearly cost, so you can clear them in one sitting.

Amazon Prime cancellation FAQs
Will I get a refund if I cancel Amazon Prime partway through the year?
Only if you haven't used Prime benefits during the current billing period — in that case Amazon refunds the full fee for the period. If you've placed Prime orders or streamed Prime Video, you keep access until the period ends and no partial refund applies.
What does Amazon Prime look like on my bank statement?
Most commonly AMZN.COM/BILL or a descriptor containing 'Amazon Prime'. Regular shopping orders usually appear as AMZN Mktp US or Amazon.com, so a recurring AMZN.COM/BILL charge that matches your plan price is typically the membership.
How do I cancel Prime Video without cancelling Prime?
If Prime Video is part of your full Prime membership you can't cancel it separately. If you pay for Prime Video as a standalone subscription, cancel it from Account & Settings on primevideo.com or from Amazon's Memberships & Subscriptions page.
Why am I still being charged after cancelling Prime?
The most common causes are a second Amazon account with its own membership, a Prime Video Channel or other Amazon subscription that survived the cancellation, or a cancellation flow that was never confirmed on the final screen. Check Memberships & Subscriptions on every Amazon account you own.
Why is AMZN.COM/BILL on my bank statement?
That descriptor is Amazon Prime (shopping & streaming). If you don't recognise it, confirm any charge with our free lookup before cancelling or disputing — descriptors often name a biller or platform rather than the service itself.
Amazon Prime is still charging me after I cancelled — what now?
First check you cancelled in the right place: if you subscribed through Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider, the service's own website can't stop that billing. If it still charges, keep your cancellation confirmation and follow our guide for a subscription that keeps charging after you cancel — and only dispute with your bank as a last resort.
