How to cancel your Planet Fitness subscription

Planet Fitness bills monthly dues and a separate once-a-year annual fee, usually through its third-party biller ABC Fitness Solutions, which is why charges can show as ABC FINANCIAL instead of the gym's name. Since May 2025, Planet Fitness offers online cancellation at all US clubs through the member portal and app, ending its long-standing in-person-or-letter-only policy. Cancellations are still processed by your home club (the location where you signed up), so timing rules are tied to that club's billing dates.

On your statement it usually appears as PLANET FIT, PLANET FIT CLUB FEES, PLANET FITNESS, ABC*PLANET FITNESS, ABC FINANCIAL. Not sure the charge is really Planet Fitness? Identify it first.

Cancel online (member portal or app)

Log in to the Planet Fitness member portal at planetfitness.com (or open the PF App) using the email on your membership.
Open My Account, then Membership Info or membership settings.
Look for the cancellation option and follow the on-screen steps.
Complete any confirmation prompts and keep the digital confirmation you receive.

Online cancellation rolled out to all US clubs in May 2025. If you don't see a cancel button in your account, do not assume you're cancelled — use the in-club or mail method instead.

Cancel in person at your home club

Go to the Planet Fitness location where you signed up — only your home club can process the cancellation.
Ask the front desk for a cancellation form and fill it out.
Request a stamped or signed copy of the completed form for your records.

Cancel by certified letter

Write a letter requesting cancellation, including your name, membership/keytag number, address, and signature.
Mail it to your home club (not corporate headquarters).
Use certified mail with return receipt so you have proof of delivery.
Keep the receipt and follow up with the club to confirm it was processed.

Refunds, timing and what you'll still be charged

Planet Fitness does not refund dues already billed; cancellation stops future billing rather than reversing past charges. Monthly dues are billed on the 17th, and Planet Fitness's own guidance says the club must receive your cancellation by the 10th of the month to stop that month's draft, because processing can take up to 7 days. The annual fee bills separately once a year on a date tied to your membership — to avoid it, your cancellation must be fully processed before that annual fee date, so check your annual fee month in your account before you cancel. If you are on a commitment membership and cancel before the commitment period ends, a buyout fee may apply; No Commitment memberships can cancel anytime without a cancellation fee.

Watch out for these

Only your home club can process the cancellation — visiting or writing to a different location can leave your membership active.
The annual fee is a separate charge from monthly dues; cancelling after it has drafted will not get it back, so time your cancellation before your annual fee date.
Commitment (12-month) memberships can trigger a buyout fee if you cancel early; check your agreement type before cancelling.
Charges often appear as ABC FINANCIAL or ABC*PLANET FITNESS, so a 'mystery' charge after cancelling may still be Planet Fitness — check the descriptor before assuming it's unrelated.

After you cancel: make sure it stuck

Keep your cancellation confirmation (digital confirmation or stamped form copy) until at least two billing cycles have passed.
Check your bank statement after the next 17th-of-the-month billing date for any PLANET FIT or ABC FINANCIAL charge.
If a charge appears after a confirmed cancellation, contact your home club first with your proof, then dispute with your bank if it isn't resolved.
