How to cancel your Grammarly subscription

Grammarly Premium and Pro subscriptions renew automatically monthly, quarterly, or annually. Cancellation is self-serve from the Subscription page at account.grammarly.com, but only if you bought directly from Grammarly — App Store and Google Play purchases must be cancelled through Apple or Google. Grammarly's stated refund policy is strict: refunds are issued only where the law requires them.

On your statement it usually appears as GRAMMARLY, GRAMMARLY CO*, PAYPAL *GRAMMARLY, GRAMMARLY 888-318-6146. Not sure the charge is really Grammarly? Identify it first.

Cancel on the Grammarly website (direct purchases)

Sign in at account.grammarly.com.
Open the Account tab in the left sidebar, then go to Subscription.
Click Cancel Subscription at the bottom of the page.
Click Continue in the confirmation window, choose a cancellation reason, and click Cancel Subscription again to finish.
Look for the cancellation confirmation email and keep it.

The same page works from a mobile browser. If you use Grammarly through the Superhuman suite, cancelling applies across the associated apps.

Cancel an Apple App Store subscription

On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then tap Subscriptions.
Select Grammarly and tap Cancel Subscription.
For refund requests on Apple-billed charges, use Apple's reportaproblem.apple.com — Grammarly cannot stop or refund Apple billing.

Cancel a Google Play subscription

Open the Play Store, tap your profile icon, then Payments & subscriptions > Subscriptions.
Select Grammarly and tap Cancel subscription.
Refunds for Play-billed charges go through Google, not Grammarly.

Refunds, timing and what you'll still be charged

Cancelling stops the next automatic renewal; you keep all paid features until the end of the period you already paid for. Grammarly's official policy is that refunds are issued only if required by law, so a mid-cycle cancellation of a monthly, quarterly, or annual plan does not normally return any money. If you were charged after cancelling, or hit an unwanted annual renewal, submit a support request through support.grammarly.com — outcomes are case-by-case. For App Store or Google Play purchases, refund decisions belong entirely to Apple or Google under their own policies.

Watch out for these

Annual is the default billing option at signup, so an unexpected large GRAMMARLY CO* charge is often a forgotten annual renewal rather than fraud.
Cancelling on the website does nothing for App Store or Google Play subscriptions — Grammarly cannot stop charges billed by Apple or Google.
Deleting the Grammarly app or even your Grammarly account is not the same as cancelling the subscription; billing continues until you cancel it where it's billed.
Refunds are policy-excluded except where legally required, so timing the cancellation before renewal is what actually saves money.

After you cancel: make sure it stuck

Check the Subscription page shows a plan end date and no upcoming renewal.
Verify no GRAMMARLY or PAYPAL *GRAMMARLY charge posts at the next cycle; PayPal users can also revoke the automatic payment in PayPal settings.
If you subscribed via an app store, confirm the subscription shows as cancelled in Apple or Google subscription settings, not just in Grammarly.
Generate a paper trail with the free cancellation-letter tool — useful if billing continues and you need proof.

Does Grammarly give refunds if I cancel?

It's Grammarly's billing descriptor, often followed by a unique reference code support can use to locate the transaction, and sometimes accompanied by the 888-318-6146 support number. PayPal-funded subscriptions show as PAYPAL *GRAMMARLY.

Do I lose Grammarly Premium immediately when I cancel?

No. Cancellation only turns off auto-renewal; Premium features keep working until the current billing period ends, then the account drops to the free tier.

Why is Grammarly still charging me after I cancelled?

Usually the subscription was billed through Apple, Google Play, or PayPal and needs to be cancelled there, or a second Grammarly account holds the paid plan. If billing genuinely continued after a confirmed cancellation, file a support ticket and, failing that, dispute the charge with your card issuer within 60 days of the statement.
