How to cancel your SiriusXM subscription
SiriusXM is one of the hardest mainstream subscriptions to leave: many plans billed directly by SiriusXM - especially in-car satellite plans - still route cancellation through a phone agent or live chat, both of which run scripted retention offers before processing the cancellation. Some accounts can now manage or cancel from the Subscriptions tab of the Online Account Center, and app-store signups (Apple, Google Play, Roku) are cancelled through those stores instead. Expect discounted-rate counter-offers and be explicit that you want a full cancellation, not a cheaper plan.
On your statement it usually appears as SXM*SIRIUSXM.CO, SXM SIRIUSXM.COM ACCT, SIRIUS XM RADIO INC. Not sure the charge is really SiriusXM? Identify it first.
Online Account Center (where available)
- Sign in at care.siriusxm.com.
- Open the Subscriptions tab in the Online Account Center.
- Look for a cancel option on the plan you want to end and follow the prompts.
- Read each screen carefully - downgrade and discount offers appear before the final cancel confirmation.
Not every plan shows an online cancel option; in-car satellite and some bundled plans still require chat or phone.
Live chat
- Go to siriusxm.com/contactus and start a chat session (availability hours are listed there).
- Tell the agent you want to cancel the subscription entirely.
- Decline retention offers you do not want, and ask the agent to confirm the cancellation and effective date in the chat.
- Save or screenshot the transcript as proof.
Phone
- Call SiriusXM listener care at 866-635-8641.
- State clearly that you are cancelling, not shopping for a discount.
- Expect one or more retention offers; decline each if you want out entirely.
- Before hanging up, get the cancellation confirmation number or email and the exact end date.
Set aside real time for this call - third-party guides consistently report phone cancellations taking well over 20 minutes.
If billed through Apple, Google Play, Roku, or T-Mobile
- Apple: cancel in Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions - SiriusXM notes you cannot cancel inside the app, and uninstalling does not cancel.
- Google Play: cancel from the Play Store subscriptions list; the same uninstalling caveat applies.
- Roku: sign in at my.roku.com and cancel the subscription there - it cannot be done in the SiriusXM app.
- T-Mobile bundle: remove SiriusXM from your add-ons in your T-Mobile account, or call T-Mobile support.
SiriusXM warns that app-store subscriptions may renew unless cancelled more than 24 hours before the renewal date.
Refunds, timing and what you'll still be charged
Cancel at least 24 hours before your renewal date - SiriusXM's own third-party billing guidance warns that later cancellations may still renew, and app-store billers enforce this strictly. For directly billed plans, ask the agent to confirm whether you keep access to the end of the paid period or whether any credit applies; SiriusXM's public help pages mention credits in the context of plan downgrades but do not publish a blanket refund policy for cancellations, so get the agent's answer in writing (chat transcript or confirmation email). Prepaid longer-term plans in particular should be confirmed with the agent, since remaining-time treatment is handled account by account.
Watch out for these
- Retention is the core of the flow: agents are trained to counter with temporary discounted rates, pauses, or downgrades before cancelling. Accepting a promotional rate is not cancelling, and the price typically jumps back to the standard rate when the promotion ends.
- Buying or selling a car does not end the subscription attached to that radio - the plan keeps billing until you actively cancel it against your account.
- Where you cancel depends on who bills you: Apple, Google Play, Roku, and T-Mobile signups cannot be cancelled by SiriusXM's own agents, and uninstalling the app never cancels anything.
- Trials that came free with a new vehicle convert to paid plans that auto-renew; the first SXM*SIRIUSXM charge often lands months after the car purchase, which is why many people do not recognise it.
Cancellation flows change — confirm against SiriusXM's current account or help page (official help).
After you cancel: make sure it stuck
- Keep the cancellation confirmation number, email, or chat transcript with the effective end date.
- Sign in to care.siriusxm.com after the end date and confirm the account shows no active paid subscription.
- Check the next one or two statements for SXM*SIRIUSXM lines - post-cancellation charges are a recurring complaint, and your dated confirmation is the evidence you need to dispute them.
- Generate a paper trail with the free cancellation-letter tool — useful if billing continues and you need proof.
- If it keeps charging after you cancel, follow the escalation playbook before disputing.
While you're at it — find the ones you forgot
SiriusXM is rarely the only recurring charge. Upload a statement and find every subscription — trials that converted, quiet price rises, duplicates — each with its yearly cost, so you can clear them in one sitting.

SiriusXM cancellation FAQs
Can I cancel SiriusXM online, or do I have to call?
It depends on your plan and how you are billed. Some accounts can cancel from the Subscriptions tab at care.siriusxm.com, and app-store subscriptions (Apple, Google Play, Roku) are cancelled through those stores. Many directly billed satellite plans still require live chat or a call to 866-635-8641.
What is the SXM*SIRIUSXM.CO charge on my card?
It is SiriusXM's billing descriptor for a subscription renewal - commonly an in-car satellite plan, sometimes a streaming plan. If you recently bought a car with a SiriusXM trial, this is likely the trial having converted to a paid auto-renewing plan.
Will SiriusXM offer me a cheaper rate if I try to cancel?
Very likely - retention offers with reduced promotional rates, pauses, or downgrades are a standard part of the cancellation flow. If you want one, ask for the exact price, how long it lasts, and what it renews at. If you want out, decline each offer and ask directly for full cancellation.
I sold my car - does the SiriusXM subscription stop automatically?
No. The subscription is tied to your account and keeps billing until you cancel it. Contact SiriusXM (or your app-store biller) to cancel, and tell them the radio is no longer yours so the service is removed from that vehicle.
Why is SXM*SIRIUSXM.CO on my bank statement?
That descriptor is SiriusXM (satellite radio and streaming). If you don't recognise it, confirm any charge with our free lookup before cancelling or disputing — descriptors often name a biller or platform rather than the service itself.
SiriusXM is still charging me after I cancelled — what now?
First check you cancelled in the right place: if you subscribed through Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider, the service's own website can't stop that billing. If it still charges, keep your cancellation confirmation and follow our guide for a subscription that keeps charging after you cancel — and only dispute with your bank as a last resort.
