How to cancel your Spotify subscription

Spotify Premium is cancelled from the plan management section of your Spotify account on the web - there is no cancel button inside the Spotify mobile app itself. Your account then drops to the free ad-supported tier at the next billing date and you keep your playlists and saved music. If a third party bills you - Apple, or a phone or internet provider bundle - you must cancel with them, not with Spotify.

On your statement it usually appears as SPOTIFY USA, SPOTIFY USA NEW YORK NY, SPOTIFY (with country or reference code). Not sure the charge is really Spotify? Identify it first.

On the Spotify website

  1. Sign in at spotify.com/account.
  2. Go to Manage your plan (under Your plan on the account page).
  3. Choose Change plan or Cancel subscription.
  4. Scroll to the cancel option and confirm through the retention screens until you see cancellation confirmed.

You can reach this page from the mobile app by opening your account settings in a browser - the cancel flow itself is always on the web.

If you pay through Apple (subscribed via the iOS App Store)

  1. On your iPhone or iPad, open Settings, tap your name, then Subscriptions.
  2. Select Spotify.
  3. Tap Cancel Subscription and confirm.

Spotify cannot cancel Apple-billed subscriptions from spotify.com - the payment section of your Spotify account will show Apple as the biller.

If you pay through a partner (mobile carrier, ISP, or other bundle)

  1. Sign in at spotify.com/account and open Manage your plan.
  2. Look under the Payment section for the partner company named there.
  3. Use the partner's contact link and cancel the Spotify add-on directly with that company.

Refunds, timing and what you'll still be charged

Cancelling keeps Premium active until your next billing date, after which the account switches to the free plan; Spotify does not advertise prorated refunds for the remainder of a paid month. One exception on timing: if you cancel during a zero-priced trial, Spotify states the account switches to free immediately and the trial cannot be reactivated. Apple-billed subscribers follow Apple's refund process at reportaproblem.apple.com instead.

Watch out for these

  • There is no cancel option in the Spotify mobile app - cancellation happens on the web account page, which regularly confuses people looking for an in-app button.
  • If you subscribed through Apple, spotify.com cannot cancel it; the subscription lives in your Apple Account and must be cancelled there.
  • On Duo and Family plans, only the plan manager can cancel the whole plan - a member going through the cancel flow only removes their own account from the plan.
  • Cancelling does not delete your account: your profile, playlists, and saved library remain on the free tier, so a later SPOTIFY charge usually means the plan was re-upgraded, not that cancellation failed.

Cancellation flows change — confirm against Spotify's current account or help page (official help).

After you cancel: make sure it stuck

  • Check spotify.com/account and confirm the plan shows Spotify Free (or an end date for Premium) rather than a renewal date.
  • Keep Spotify's cancellation confirmation email as proof of the date you cancelled.
  • After the next billing date passes, confirm no new SPOTIFY charge appears; if one does, check whether the biller is Spotify, Apple, or a carrier bundle before disputing.
  • Generate a paper trail with the free cancellation-letter tool — useful if billing continues and you need proof.
  • If it keeps charging after you cancel, follow the escalation playbook before disputing.

While you're at it — find the ones you forgot

Spotify is rarely the only recurring charge. Upload a statement and find every subscription — trials that converted, quiet price rises, duplicates — each with its yearly cost, so you can clear them in one sitting.

Questions

Spotify cancellation FAQs

Why can't I find a cancel button in the Spotify app?

Spotify only offers cancellation through your account page on the web (spotify.com/account). Open it in any browser, sign in, and use Manage your plan. If you pay through Apple or a carrier, the cancel option lives with them instead.

Will I lose my playlists if I cancel Premium?

No. Your account switches to the free ad-supported plan and you keep playlists, saved music, and followers. You lose Premium features such as ad-free listening, offline downloads, and on-demand playback on mobile.

What is the SPOTIFY USA charge on my bank statement?

It is Spotify's US billing descriptor, usually for a Premium plan but potentially for an audiobook or podcast subscription purchased through Spotify. Sign in at spotify.com/account to see your plan and payment history. If your Spotify is billed by Apple, Spotify charges appear as APPLE.COM/BILL instead.

I cancelled but Spotify still charged me - why?

Common causes: the charge was billed by a different party (Apple or a carrier) than where you cancelled; you cancelled after the billing date so one final renewal went through; or a second account is subscribed. Check the biller shown in your account's payment section first.

Why is SPOTIFY USA on my bank statement?

That descriptor is Spotify (music streaming). If you don't recognise it, confirm any charge with our free lookup before cancelling or disputing — descriptors often name a biller or platform rather than the service itself.

Spotify is still charging me after I cancelled — what now?

First check you cancelled in the right place: if you subscribed through Apple, Google, Amazon or a TV provider, the service's own website can't stop that billing. If it still charges, keep your cancellation confirmation and follow our guide for a subscription that keeps charging after you cancel — and only dispute with your bank as a last resort.
